Investment Themes

Private Equity

The Private Equity group explores capital investments into companies that are not publicly traded. In addition to the traditional financial aspect of investing, this asset class allows investors to incorporate operational components in order to drive and realize returns. Throughout the year, the group will explore various investment strategies and cover relevant subjects happening in the space, as well as perform mock public takeovers and private equity transaction analysis. Furthermore, the PE group seeks to equip its members with all the tools necessary to explore and undertake a career in the various opportunities in the space, such as growth equity, buyout funds, search funds, and operating roles within sponsor-backed companies.

Special Situations

The Special Situations group seeks to explore investment opportunities that arise from unique events within financial markets. These can take the form of activist campaigns, distressed debt investing, and recapitalizations. The group will allow students to analyze companies beyond traditional investment analysis and to think about additional variables such as institutional limitations and game theory. Finally, this can segue into many careers in the industry ranging from starting as a restructuring investment banker, to working at an activist hedge fund or becoming an arbitrage trader.

Real Assets

The Real Assets group provides coverage of private diversified investment opportunities across global investable assets related to real estate, infrastructure, and land. The Real Assets team will periodically execute mock real asset transactions while exploring a variety of investment strategies, allowing them to enhance their knowledge of the acquisition and asset management components of the asset class. Moreover, the RA group will operate with the purpose to prepare its members for future careers in Real Asset acquisition, asset management, and underwriting, among others.

Global Macro

The Global Macro group provides coverage on central bank policy, macroeconomic trends, and broad views on all markets ranging from sovereign debt to digital assets. Discussion about monetary policy, its history, and how it affects various asset classes will also be a core component of this group. The Global Macro group will help students develop critical thinking skills, equip them with things to look for when identifying larger trends and trying to make sense of various markets. Each group will be required to pitch at least one trade idea per semester based on macroeconomic analysis, for example, how $17 trillion in negatively yielding bonds affects assets like gold.
